Musings Newsletter - What do you do well everyday?

20 May 2008

apology for format.. but content is great!

Go Fourth!  The next in a series of infrequent newsletter  (the 4th, of course)

(It’s May! The boat goes in soon!  Hey, now there’s a unique setting to be coached in)

What do you do WELL every day?

But first: the meanderings that are meant to inspire you to consider that question,

and then there will be more on how to make that question work for you!

Coaching gets you from where you are to where you want to be... ...but a person doesn’t always know where that is.

That’s one of the great joys of coaching – being a witness as people discover where they do want to be,

helping them to uncover the gifts, the passions, the direction that becomes so empowering

that it almost seems effortless to succeed ...and even, fun!

Well, who knew life could be so fun?  (smile)

And why shouldn’t it be?

Trust me, I know the challenges, and many are not even a teeny bit fun.

I also know that becoming empowered towards your true purpose allows the “good stuff’ in.

It builds the strength and the resources to manage the more difficult challenges.

And, yes, there are times when those challenges hold great gifts.

Most people who come for coaching are in transition, such as:

. considering a new job,

. debating whether the education they are involved in is where they want to be,

. trying to build a business but not achieving financial success,

. thinking of retiring but not sure what happens after.

The people who choose to be coached are people who are inspired

to make the most out of their life, business, and career.

(by the way, although there is a creative edge to Musings and Mud,

this doesn’t mean you have to consider yourself a creative person to be coached!

Some people do want to pursue creative dreams; Others find value in the ‘creative thinking’ that comes with coaching)
Imagine our delight, then, when these people get to acknowledge what they really want and discover how to get there!

For instance:

-          The tortuous job turns out to be the job of their dreams.  Some changes in structure and perspective was all that was needed.

 -          The ‘day job’ is no longer a pain. It’s perceived as a support system, as a person takes all the actions to build a career as an author.

-          The business being built took a leap in another direction, resulting in great amounts of joy and money!

 -          The desire to travel finally happens, the ways and means become clear.

And there’s the talented artist who thought she might have to end her art career and instead is
doing her first solo show!

With her permission, I am honoured to extend an invitation to Bonnie Keats brilliant

Solo Art Show “Secret Garden.”

Also, with permission, I share Kathleen Charlton’s Blog – “ Imagination Discovered”

At age 75, Kathleen, a painter, came for coaching.  She soon discovered she has a penchant for writing and has now published her thought provoking and powerful short stories on her own blog.

How inspiring is that???

Her story “I am the Wind” captured my audience at a recent creative journaling workshop.

Considering these successes, one can’t help but want to look a little closer at where you are and where you want to be!

So, Back to the Question:

“What do you do well every day?”

Often this question is a step towards creating your purposeful life, the life you dream.

There is something you do well every day that is going to play a part.

However, because we do it so well, our minds don’t even notice that it is something we do well... it is just a ‘part of us’.

You might even assume everyone does ‘this’ well!

Or you might think you already know what you do well everyday...

but others might give you an entirely new perspective.

It’s worth just asking!

So here’s the task towards this self-coaching exercise:

°   ASK all of your friends and family: “What do I do well every day?”

°   Ask them in person, by email, or by phone.

°   Ask as many people as you can muster.  (It’s a survey after all; the more answers, the clearer the results)

°   Make it a survey:  Give yourself two weeks to get all these answers.

This exercise (thanks, David) set me on the path of where I am now – doing what I love, doing what I do well.

Yet, I had been completely surprised by the answers!

So, away you go.  Explore, Discover, then Dream...

...creatively consider how your every day talents can enhance,

become, or  give a clue to your next empowering steps

in life, business, career, and creativity!
