Mudheaven Pottery....where pottery artworks come with unusual functions and a mystical bent... things likegrudgepot coordinators and thoughtcasters, or faeries sharing insights from a whole other realm and perspective. And then there are the ships; a lifelong obsession, a place where Janet feels most connected to her most adventurous and free spirit. Most recently the storypainting homes are appearing on the clay! (sorry, no image yet!)
Sometimes playing in her studio just feels like Christmas.Her detailed pieces come with stories and many come with a strange sort of writing.Janet thinks these writings are the 'answers to everything.' It's a shame she doesn't know how to read the words yet. Clay artwork is made from stoneware and/or porcelain, using unique combinations of glazes including 24kt fire-on gold and her own recipe for crystalline glazes. Realm Travellers 8"x12"x8"
Mid novel and the faeries thought they might prefer to be
called Realm Travellers now. Happy that they've been
acknowledged as faeries, but wanting to be free of
the 'garden faerie' stereotype and presented as
the realm travellers that they are. {ya, they are always
throwing a twist into what I think the novel is about!}
maybe I'll build a new site just for the artworks! because I'm having a bit of trouble making this work!
Of Faeries, Mishaps, and Joyful Whatevers
When I make a pot, I never know what it will be. I have so many surprises it's like Christmas. There is a chapter called, Whatever, in the book. I have come to accept that throwing up my arms and saying "whatever" is what opened the door to the faerie realm. Brats that they were punching holes in my pots and all. {"Brats?? she's calling us brats???} With each strange occurrence in the pottery development, comes a story.
For now, I won't go into the whole novel here... but this pot. This one today. I don't know if I'm going to get a sense of it's story. It's a tough one. While in the Kiln, it had a mishap. Little faerie changed locations. It will get a story, I'm sure, as soon as I sit with faeries to write it. But here's the people side of this little pot's story so far:
"Look, at this, honey"
"oh it's beautiful, Mom' I await the response when she looks closer.
"oh, the faerie is dead!" she exclaims in a way that says, "oh my, this is the first one ever that I am not going to encourage her to put it out for sale!"
"hmm, you don't think she's doing a triple reverse 360 around the dandelion?"
"no, mom, she looks dead."
"but faeries don't die."
"mom, she looks like she's dead but her mom is trying to resurrect her."
(by now we are in hysterics)
"But she's smiling!"
"she died with a smile on her face, mom"
~~~~~~~~~
.... I'm still laughing. I'm looking forward to what the faeries have to say about this! Levitating? or perhaps imagining walking on the ceiling of a people house? (did you do that as a child?)
